Linehan was the head coach of the NFL's St. Louis Rams from 2006-08. His first season with the team they went 8-8 and finished second in the NFC West.
His NFL coaching career began in 2002 as an offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach with the Minnesota Vikings. After three seasons, he became the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator for the 2005 season before taking the Rams head coaching position the following season.
The Rams struggled in Linehan's second year as head coach, finishing 3-13 and last in the NFC West. He was fired after the team started the 2008 season with an 0-4 record.
In Jan. 2009 he was named as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
