Playwright, actress buys $2.395M in Fort Greene

Medium 31fa3004b1915201bcd9cf73fdd95f7d David H. Hwang and Kathryn Hwang bought a seven-bedroom, 3.5-bath home at 49 S. Portland Ave. in Fort Greene from James Q. Walker and Tanya Hernandez for $2.395 million on Aug. 21.

The 4,248-square-foot house in the Fort Greene Historic District subdivision was built in 1899.

Mr. Hwang is a playwright and director.

He also is a teacher of English and writing at Menlo-Atherton High School in Menlo Park and is co-founder of the Stanford Asian American Theatre Project and Theatre Communications Group.

He received his B.A. from Stanford University and attended the Yale University School of Drama.

Ms. Hwang is an actress.

According to BlockShopper.com, there were 54 sales in Fort Greene in 2008, with a median sales price of $784,888.
