Award-winning teacher settles in Ridgewood

Ellen Quish bought a home at 68-33 65th St. in Ridgewood from Eugene Gaffney and Catherine Gaffney for $500,000 on July 8.

The Gaffneys paid $422,000 for the property in Aug. 2005. The 1,752-square-foot house was built in 1925.

Ms. Quish is an ESOL instructor and a staff and program developer in the Adult Learning Center at LaGuardia Community College. She's also served as the director for the Summer Intensive English Language Program for entering ninth grade ESOL students.

The native New Yorker was named the 2007 ESOL Teacher of the Year by The New York Times. She earned her master's in TESOL from the School of International Training in Battleboro, Vt.

There have been 73 sales in Ridgewood in 2008, with a median price of $530,500.
