Dr. Vladimiro Mujica bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at 17 W. Vernon Ave. in Encanto from William and Sharon Swanson for $385,000 on Oct. 8.

The Swansons paid $354,596 for the 1,386-square-foot condo in March 2006. Unit #618 is part of the seven-story Willowalk condominium development, which was built in 2006.

Dr. Mujica has been a research professor in the chemistry department at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern, he was a chemistry professor in Caracas.

He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Central University in Venezuela and his Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from Uppsala University.

According to BlockShopper.com, there have been 159 condo sales in Encanto during the past 12 months, with a median sales price of $108,000.
