Health care facility coordinator grabs 3BD in Washington

Medium d96994422a855952edc00d68458adc64 Shannon M. Hepler and William M. Hepler bought a three-bedroom, two-bath home at 510 Somerset Place N.W. in Washington from HSBC Bank U.S.A. National Association for $230,000 on Sept. 11.

HSBC Bank U.S.A. National Association acquired the property in a foreclosure in Oct. 2008. The 936-square-foot house was built in 1925 in the Manor Park neighborhood.

Ms. Hepler is a coordinator of yearlong volunteers at Christ House, a 24-hour medical recovery facility providing residential health care for men and women who are homeless and sick in Washington, D.C. She also is a certified special education teacher in the District of Columbia.

Previously, she was a D.C. Teaching Fellow operations and institute assistant at The New Teacher Project, was director of volunteers and unit clerk at Christ House; a fifth-grade teacher at School for Arts in Learning (SAIL); special education teacher for D.C. Public Schools; a human resources staff at Arthur Andersen LLP; and an inside sales associate at BridgeStreet Worldwide.

She received her bachelor's degree in communications from George Mason University and her M.A. in special education from George Washington University.

According to BlockShopper.com, there were 4,143 home sales in Washington in 2008, with a median sales price of $375,000.
