U.S. Air Force band tenor vocalist buys Washington 3BD

Medium 62d93265cee9b7edaa16f1afd6ac0422 Joseph Haughton and Melinda Merinsky bought a three-bedroom, one-bath home at 716 Fairmont St. N.W. in Washington from the estate of Andrena Ligon, the estate of Etharine P. Haggins, the estate of O'Donell Hooks, Orinzie Hooks, Derrick Hooks, Julie Mae Hooks, Tyrone Ligon, Danielle D. Pruden, and Edna Walker for $230,000 on Sept. 10.

The 992-square-foot house was built in 1926 in the neighborhood of Pleasant Plains.

Joseph Haughton, technical sergeant, is a tenor vocalist with the Singing Sergeants, the official chorus of the United States Air Force in Bolling Air Force Base.

Before joining the Air Force, he appeared with Washington Concert Opera, Mobile Opera, Pensacola Opera, Ashville Lyric Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and Pittsburgh Opera Theater.

He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in vocal performance from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (2002). He currently studies voice with New York City Opera mezzo soprano, Claudia Catania. He was a regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera Competition for the Gulf Coast Region (2004), the Great Lakes Region (2005), and Middle Atlantic Region (2007).

His military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

There were 4,143 home sales in Washington in 2008, with a median sales price of $375,000.
