Professors land 2BD condo in Bethesda

Medium 16fd08f722b7c5aa9def56b582a20164 Dr. Haleh Esfandiari and Dr. Shaul Bakhash bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at 4928 Sentinel Dr. in Bethesda from Martha A. Carr for $449,500 on Oct. 15.

Carr paid $390,000 for the property in Nov. 2002. The 1,583-square-foot unit is part of the Sumner Village I development, which was built in 1973 and houses 326 units.

Dr. Esfandiari is the director of the Middle East program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. She is an expert on Middle Eastern women's issues and Iranian affairs.

She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Vienna.

Dr. Bakhash is a professor of history and Persian studies at George Mason University. He serves on the Board of Advisory Editors of The Middle East Journal.

He holds an M.A. from Harvard University. He also attended the University of Oxford.

According to BlockShopper.com, there have been 216 condo sales in Bethesda during the past 12 months, with a median sales price of $393,500.
