Defense consultant deals in Capitol Hill East

Medium 77cd4450a3bb467150700dd0fb70b335 Michael Pillsbury sold a two-bedroom, 2.5-bath at 1111 Independence Ave. S.E. in Washington to Brian Lefton for $700,000 on Sept. 9.

The 1,764-square-foot home was built in 1893 in the Capitol Hill East neighborhood.

Pillsbury has been a consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense since 2003.

He previously was a senior research adviser for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission and as a policy adviser to the U.S. Department of Defense. Before that, he spent two years as a special government employee with the Defense Department. Earlier, he was a research consultant at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He also was the special assistant for Asian Affairs at the Net Assessment Office of the Secretary of Defense, a U.S. Senate staff coordinator for the Congressional Task Force on Afghanistan, and an assistant undersecretary of defense for policy planning. He has held faculty positions at the University of California–Los Angeles, the University of Southern California and Georgetown University.

He received his B.A. in history from Stanford University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.

According to BlockShopper.com, there were 4,143 sales in Washington in 2008, with a median sales price of $375,000.
