Bishop sells in Palm Beach Gardens

Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito sold a four-bedroom, four-bath home at 10831 Hickory Dr. in Palm Beach Gardens' PGA National Golf Club for $600,000 to Betty Carroll and Michael Bastone on Oct. 8.

The 4,732-square-foot house was built in 1986.

Bishop Barbarito is the fifth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Palm Beach. He was appointed to the position in Aug. 2003 at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola.

Bishop Barbarito previously spent three years serving as the 12th Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg in New York and five years as an auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn.

Prior to being ordained to the priesthood, he was a deacon at St. Francis of Assisi in Astoria, Queens. After his ordination, he was assigned to St. Helen's Church in Howard Beach, Queens, where he served as assistant chancellor.

Bishop Barbarito has served on the College of Consultors, the Priests' Personnel Board and the Presbyteral Council. He has also served as an appellate judge at the diocesan tribunal and as a consultant to the canonical affairs committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

He is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association and the Canon Law Society of America.

Bishop Barbarito has a B.A. from Cathedral College, an M.Div. from Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and a J.C.L. from Catholic University of America.
