The Miramar Cultural Center ArtsPark presents “Renaissance: The works of Philippe Dodard,” beginning today through Jan. 25.
The exhibition will feature more than 60 works including ink on paper mounted on canvas and acrylic on canvas. A grand opening reception with the artist will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Dodard is a celebrated Haitian painter, graphic artist and illustrator, whose works have been exhibited throughout the Americas and Europe and include large sculptures, ironworks and jewelry designs as well as paintings. His work has been credited as the inspiration for Donna Karan’s 2012 spring/summer collection.
While Haitian influences are evident, especially in his bold use of color, Dodard has expanded on tradition to create a fresh Haitian sophistication and contemporary aesthetic that are uniquely his own.
