Mastering engineer buys in Greenpoint

Frederic A. Kevorkian bought Unit #23 at 169 Russell St. in Greenpoint from Gerard and Frances Rizzo for $680,000 on July 2.

Kevorkian is a resident mastering engineer at Avatar Studios, a New York–based recording studio that offers audio tracking and mixing. In 2004, he founded the Kevorkian Mastering Inc., an Avatar-based studio.

Prior to Avatar, he spent five years on staff with Absolute Audio.

He began his career in France, where he worked for Sonofrance, a well-established sound company in Paris. He specialized in engineering and worked as a freelance broadcast engineer for major television networks and as a staff engineer at Parisign Records.

He moved to New York in 1989 and spent nine years as chief recording engineer at Sear Sound.

169 Russell St., which was built in 1904, has 24 units in four floors. Its alternate address is 171 Engert Ave.

Sales in Greenpoint went down 43 percent in 2008 versus sales in 2007. The median sales price, however, went up from $484,000 in 2007 to $510,000 so far this year.
