Jewish org. director acquires Midwood home

Rori Picker Neiss and her husband, Russel, bought a 1,600-square-foot home at 2209 Bay Ave. in Midwood from David and Mary Ellen Wiggins for $490,000 on July 28.

The house was built in 1910.

Picker Neiss was the assistant director of inter-religious affairs at the American Jewish Committee, a Jewish advocacy organization.

She previously held positions as a program coordinator at the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance and was an acting executive director, a program consultant and an associate for interfaith relations at Religions for Peace, an international NGO that advocates multi-religious cooperation. She was also a dialogue researcher for the Inter Faith Network and an intern at the Israel Policy Forum.

She received her bachelor's degree in religious studies and political science at Macaulay Honors College at Hunter's College and her master's degree in Judaic studies from the City University of New York.

There have been 123 home sales in Midwood in 2008, with a median sales price of $425,000.
