Filmmaker, educator deals in Crown Heights North

Medium f9477f279bc0dfc4d288d6f4a9779e98 Ayoka Chenzira sold a home at 1380 Dean St. in Crown Heights North to Elena Demyanenko and Ivan Goff for $650,000 on June 10.

The 2,921-square-foot house was built in 1899.

Chenzira is an artist, educator and video artist and one of the first African American women to teach film production in higher education. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Red Carnelian Films and is the chair of the department of media and communication arts at The City College of New York.

She previously was a professor of film at The City College of New York. She wrote, produced, and directed a feature film, Alma's Rainbow, one of Billboard magazine's top 40 home video rentals.

She received her degrees in film production and education from New York University and an M.A. in education from the Columbia University Teachers' College.

There were 120 sales in Crown Heights North in 2008, with a median sales price of $420,000.
