Brookings Institute director takes Clinton Hill condo

Medium d9211ce0e58fa921baf8ae436c38a996 Homi J. Kharas and Shelley J. Yerman bought a two-bedroom, 1.5-bath condo at 308 Clinton Ave. in Clinton Hill from Simon J. Wainwright and Anneliese Feindel Wainwright for $794,000 on April 9.

The Wainwrights paid $710,000 for the property in October 2004. The 1,384-square-foot condo, Unit 4, is one of the four units at 308 Clinton Condo, a three-story development that was built in 1905 in Clinton Hill. It is part of the Clinton Hill Historic District.

Kharas is a senior fellow and deputy director for the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. Before Brookings, he worked at the World Bank for 26 years, where he served as chief economist for the East Asia and Pacific region, as well as director for Poverty Reduction and Economic Management, Finance and Private Sector Development.

He obtained a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

Yerman is senior specialist of student financial aid on policies and procedures and indebtedness at the Association of American Medical Colleges, where she previously held a position in loan repayment programs.

Simon Wainwright served as vice president and analyst for Steinberg Asset Management LLC. He previously served as finance and strategy director for Cablevision Systems Corp. and was an investment banking associate with Bear Stearns.

He holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a B.A. in economics from Harvard University.

According to, there have been no condo sales in Clinton Hill during the past 12 months.
