The Bernsteins paid $675,000 for the property in Aug. 2002. The 4,532-square-foot house, which was built in 2001, is in the neighborhood of Cypress Pointe.

Dr. Bernstein is an orthopedic surgeon. He has been affiliated with Barrington Orthopedics Specialists in Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates.

After studying medicine and completing his residency at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, he completed his fellowship at the Thomas Jefferson University Jefferson Medical College.

There were 277 sales in Vernon Hills in 2008, with a median sales price of $298,000.
