Food entrepreneur buys Fairmount 2BD condo

Medium 67dc35827021a7739fe17394cb3455a5 Alvin and Helene Shipon bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at 2401 Pennsylvania Ave. in Fairmount from Keith L. Wapner and Jack Wapner for $520,000 on July 15.

The 1,876-square-foot Unit #12B34, which was built in 1960, is part of The Philadelphian condominium development.

Mr. Shipon is founder and president of Sonate Corp., a Philadelphia meat manufacturer and wholesaler, and Vegadelphia Foods, a vegetarian products company within Sonate.

He oversees all aspects of the food side of the company and overall growth and business development, in addition to managing the company's strategic real estate holdings. He previously owned and operated a supermarket in South Philadelphia.

He is a graduate of Temple University.

There were 109 condo sales in Fairmount in 2008, with a median sale price of $263,000.
