John Jay associate professors score Forest Hills home

Medium 7cdc670da87ec5c8b44562d974305c24 Evan J. Mandery and Valli Rajah bought a 2,143-square-foot home at 7715 Kew Forest Lane in Forest Hills from Tina Y. Chan and Hing Lai for $982,500 on June 5.

Mr. Mandery is an assistant professor of criminal justice policy, law and philosophy at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. He also serves as chairperson of the department of criminal justice.

He has also served as associate in the litigation department of Shearman and Sterling LLP and at Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue. He was a teaching fellow in the department of government at the Harvard College.

Mandery earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School and his bachelor's in social studies from Harvard College.

Ms. Rajah is an associate professor of qualitative research methods and criminological theory in the department of sociology at the John Jay College of Criminal. Her research works includes womens' experience of partner violence, social stratification and qualitative research methodologies. She joined the faculty there in 2003.

Rajah received her Ph.D. in sociology and M.A. from Columbia University, and her B.A. from Barnard College.

There were 81 home sales in Forest Hills in 2008, with median price of $620,000.
