Educators make a deal in Laurelton

Medium 05843cab0ef2c88989856554debc599a Chotsani Williams and Jamiyl West bought a home at 234-17 131st Ave. in Laurelton from Zerish Mattis-Easton, Nadine Mattis and Jacqueline Mattis for $339,000 on June 16.

The house was built in 1930.

Ms. Williams is a youth development speaker, workshop facilitator, program manager and advisor. She has worked with teens and organizations throughout Long Island and New York City within the not-for-profit sector, within school districts and for the Department of Education.

She is also an adjunct professor at Adelphi University, teaching a course within the graduate school of Education. She's also worked in the television industry, working with the Children's Television Workshop, HBO and Showtime networks.

She earned her master's in educational leadership and technology from Adelphi University and her bachelor's in broadcast journalism from Penn State University.

Ms. Mattis is an associate professor of applied psychology and department chair at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development at NYU.

She earned her bachelor's in psychology from New York University and her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Michigan.

There were 161 home sales in Laurelton in 2008, with a median sale price of $377,000.
