Former Cardinals star Rolen sells in Huntleigh

Medium rolen Former St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen and his wife, Nikisha, sold their four-bedroom, 5.5 bath at 11 Huntleigh Woods Dr. in Huntleigh for $2.7 million to L And C Holding LLC on Feb. 6.

The Rolens paid $2.45 million for the home in Jan. 2003.

Mary Beth Benes of Coldwell Banker Gundaker real estate was the agent for the sale. The home was listed for $3.299 million.

A seven-time Gold Glove winner and largely considered the best hitting third-baseman of his generation, Rolen played for the Cardinals from 2002-07. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for third baseman Troy Glaus on Jan. 14.

St. Louis acquired him in 2002 from the Philadelphia Phillies, the team with which he made his major league debut with and won the National League Rookie of the Year award with in 1997.

In his first full season with the Cardinals in 2003 he batted .286 with 28 home runs and 104 RBI and earned his second consecutive start in the All-Star Game. He had a career year in 2004, placing fourth in the National League MVP voting while hitting .314 and finishing with career highs in home runs (34) and RBIs (124).

The Indiana native suffered a shoulder injury in 2005 and has batted .282, hit 30 home runs and batted in 153 runs in 254 games since.

He won his seventh Gold Glove in 2006 and hit .421 with a home run and three doubles in the World Series that year as the Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers in five games.

Rolen's former teammate Albert Pujols spent $2 million for a five-bedroom, six bath in Wildwood on Oct. 25.

Home sales in Huntleigh dropped 37 percent in 2007. The median sale price also dropped $463,000 last year, from approximately $1.6 million in 2006 to $1.1 million in 2007.

Median home sales prices in Huntleigh have dropped dramatically since 2005, according to BlockShopper Metrics.
