Tennis and Navy great lived in this building

Tennis player, Helen Hull Jacobs, lived in this building in 1967. She won nine Grand Slam titles in her career and a triple crown at the 1934 U.S. Nationals. Jacobs rivalry with fellow tennis legend Helen Wills Moody was one of the greatest in sport history. Her 1933 victory in the United States final is one of the most remarkable upsets in tennis lore. Moody had not lost on any court since 1926 and had not dropped a set from 1926 to 1932. Jacobs military service was equally as impressive, she was a commander in United States Navy intelligence during World War II. She is one of only five women in the history of the Navy to attain the rank of commander. Jacobs passed away in 1997.
