Democratic Party leader and businessman Averell Harriman owned this house in 1963. He was U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1943 to 1946 and Governor of New York from 1955 to 1958. Jacqueline Kennedy lived here after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Harriman passed away in 1986.
