President Franklin Delano Roosevelt lived in this house from 1918 to 1920. He was assistant secretary of the navy when he rented this house. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States in 1933 and served 12 years, the longest length of time in presidential history. He passed away in 1945. Roosevelt was commander-in-chief during World War II and is credited with bringing the U.S. out of the Great Depression.
