Time spent in this house was inspiration for National Book Award winner

Poet Laureate Consultant to the Library of Congress Randall Jarrel lived in this house from 1956 to 1958. Long walks to the National Zoo from this house inspired "The Woman at the Washington Zoo" which became the title poem of the collection which won the National Book Award in 1961. Jarrell received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1947 and a grant from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1951. He passed away in 1965.
