Hall of Fame basketball coach, Arnold "Red" Auerbach, owned this house in 1967. He either was coach or general manager for 16 Boston Celtic championship teams. Auerbach had 938 victories and was known as a shrewd predictor of talented young players. In 1958 he traded veteran and future NBA Hall of Famer Ed McCauley for the St. Louis Hawks first round draft pick. The Celtics chose NBA legendary center and future NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell. In 1978, Auerbach drafted another NBA legend and Hall of Famer, Larry Bird. Auerbach decided that drafting Bird a year before he was eligible to play in the NBA would be worth it in the end. He passed away in 2006.
