NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. lived in this house with his parents in 1930. According to the 1930 census France Sr. was a clerk at a hardware store. He moved his family from D.C. to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1935. France Sr. left D.C. with $100.00 in his pocket and worked as a race promoter until founding NASCAR in 1948. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, Canada, and Mexico.
