John Brophy was a director of the AFL- CIO Industrial Union Council in 1961 when he owned this house. The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is the largest federation of unions in the United States and Canada, made up of 56 national and international unions. The AFL-CIO represents more than 11 million workers. Brophy began working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania at the age of 11. He passed away in 1963.
