James McGranery was an attorney in private practice when he owned this house. He was appointed Attorney General of the United States by President Harry S. Truman in 1952. McGranery revoked the re-entry permit of Charlie Chaplin when he was accused of having communist sympathies. He was a former Congressman from Philadelphia. McGranery passed away in 1962.
