Seminal figure of the 20th Century lived here

Publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst lived in this building in 1930. By 1930 Hearst owned 28 newspapers, two magazines, three news services, extensive New York City real estate and thousands of acres of land in California and Mexico, along with timber and mining interests. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1903-1907), ran twice for mayor of New York City (1905 and 1909) and once for governor of New York (1906). Orson Welles character Charle Foster Kane in the 1941 classic film "Citizen Kane" is based on Hearst. Hearst passed away in 1951.
