History professor settles in Evanston 5BD

Medium 7f72322dda8bd9c88e2548ab3bfe70da Dylan C. Penningroth and Carolyn E. Chen bought a five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home at 1126 Judson Ave. in Evanston from Carole S. Mark for $665,000 on Sept. 11.

The 2,607-square-foot house in the Southeast Evanston neighborhood was built in 1898.

Mr. Penningroth is an associate professor in the history department at Northwestern University. He is also a research professor at the American Bar Foundation in Chicago. Prior to joining Northwestern, he taught history at the University of Virginia.

He received his B.A. in history from Yale University in 1993 and his M.A. (1996) and Ph.D. (2000) from Johns Hopkins University.

According to BlockShopper.com, there were 687 home sales in Evanston in 2008, with a median sales price of $300,000.
