Kieso is an associate professor of criminal justice at Aurora University. Prior to that, he also taught accounting at the school. He also worked as a accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co. and as a corporate attorney with a Chicago law firm.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California-Irvine and his J.D. from the University of Illinois. He also holds a B.S. and an M.A.S. in accountancy from Northern Illinois University.
