Filmmaker, fashion designer settle in Ocean Hill

Reno Dakota and Kei Yip bought a two-story, 2,400-square-foot home at 538 Decatur St. in Ocean Hill from Vanessa F. Pettiford for $562,000 on Dec. 22, 2004.

Mr. Dakota is a documentary filmmaker best known for the cult classic American Fabulous, a documentary on the life of Jeffrey Strouth, who died from AIDS in 1992.

The film, which has garnered critical praise nationwide, has spawned an off-Broadway play staged in 2002. American Fabulous was written by the subject himself.

He also wrote and directed Damnation, a dark comedy set in West Virginia.

Yip is a designer of men's active wear at New York City-based Adjmi Apparel Group.

Yip graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1987, where he studied men's wear design and merchandising.

There have been 32 sales in Ocean Hill in 2008, with a median sales price of $277,500.
