Melanie Manuel bought a three-story home at 906 Catharine St. in Wharton from Thomas C. Gray for $270,500 on July 15.

Gray paid $235,000 for the property in Oct. 2004. The 1,008-square-foot house was built in 1920.

Manuel is a faculty member at the Science Leadership Academy, a partnership high school between the School District of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute.

Prior to that, she was a Spanish teacher at Merion Mercy Academy.

She holds a B.S. in international business and Spanish and an M.S. in education Spanish.

There were 355 home sales in Wharton in 2008, with a median sale price of $214,500.
