It didn't take long for Weisman-Hughes Enterprises Inc. to know it had a hit on its hands with The Fields subdivision in Naperville.
When the firm started on the subdivision, it planned for 138 single-family homes, priced from $157,900 to $174,900. The three models had three or four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Full basements and masonry fireplaces would be included, as well as cedar siding and bay windows, according to the May 16, 1987 Chicago Tribune.
But that wasn't nearly all. Less than a year later, the Feb. 6, 1988 Tribune reported that 208 multifamily villas and 112 townhouses were in the works, and 20 single-family homes had also been added.
The condo villas were available from $85,900, and the townhouses were available from $129,900, the Tribune reported.
