Pulitzer Prize winner was born in this house

Pulitzer Prize winning author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was born in this house in 1896. She won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939 for her best known work "The Yearling." Rawlings learned to write while growing up in this house and was a frequent contributor to local newspapers children's sections through her teens. She passed away in 1953 and in 2008 the U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp in her honor.
