Shane MacCarthy was was executive director of the President's Council on Youth Fitness in 1960 when he owned this house. He was appointed executive director in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The President's Council on Youth Fitness was created in 1956 and is now known as the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. It is an advisory committee who advise the President about physical activity. MacCarthy was the first executive director and served from 1956 to 1961.
