George Blackwell was a Bishop in the A.M.E. Zion Church in 1913 when he owned this house. The A.M.E. Zion Church is a major faith based organization serving more than one million members. Blackwell was a member of the Board of Bishops. The Board of Bishops is a 12 person board, each responsible for a geographical area known as an Episcopal District.
