Surety company president owned this house

James Smith was president of the Equitable Surety Co. in 1912 when he owned this house. Simmons came to St. Louis in 1875 and became connected with the Simmons Hardware Co. In 1902, Smith was sent to Japan as honorary commissioner to invite them to participate in the 1904 World's Fair.
