Ossie Davis owned this house until he passed away in 2005. He was married to actress Ruby Dee for 56 years. Aside from his roles in films including "No Way Out" (1950) and "Do The Right Thing" (1989), Davis was a very active humanitarian, working for social justice wherever he found it lacking. Mourners at his funeral service included former President of the United States Bill Clinton, Spike Lee, Alice Walker, and Rachel Robinson, wife of baseball legend Jackie Robinson.
